Zephyr is a strange horse. The product of a crossing between a sprinter and a router, Zephyr was expected to have strange distance preferences, and indeed the colt runs just about anything as long as it's over the turf. His small size - easily the smallest in his crop - made the others in his crop overlook him, but Zephyr honestly could care less. The bay horse is as stoic as they come, bombproof to a fault and unaffected by almost anything around him. He will stare you down without a trace of emotion in his gaze, but will also never act violently or affectionately. He just...is. Given the sassy nature of his dam and the general fire of his lines, this came as a bit of a surprise for us, but Zephyr just likes to be left alone to do his own thing. He's not easily bothered or fazed - only constant stimulation seems to elicit any sort of emotional reaction from him - and instead exists to graze quietly, enjoy a grooming session without being obvious about it, and (we suppose) philosophize in his own head. Zephyr is, however, an intelligent horse. He picks up on routines and emotions quickly and is rarely surprised by anything that happens in his immediate environment, thereby showing some excellent observation skills, too. While not the most social horse, Zephyr does tolerate other equines and even enjoy their company provided they don't constantly pester him. Zephyr is simply the kind of quiet, good horse desperately needed in his crop - but refuse to leave him alone, and the horse becomes a different animal entirely, finally showing some fire and having no issues fully expressing the extent of his annoyance.
Leg Type: Stalker
Zephyr is nonplussed on the track. He's really not bothered by the crowds, the noise, or any part of it. He treats it like a normal day, giving nobody any issues and seemingly quiet and unassuming throughout the paddock and post parade. Load this one up, though, and you'll finally see his eyes fire. Racing is in his blood and Zephyr actually loves the feeling of stretching his legs and soaring down the turf (but never place him over dirt - he'll back right off of it). Zephyr is the kind of horse who's easy to ride - place him just behind the speed duel in front and then let him stay there until it's time to go. Zephyr is a flexible horse, able to adapt to most any pace circumstance and traffic situation. He is actually probably the most flexible horse of his year when it comes to dealing with unluckiness or bad weather conditions. Stay calm on his back and Zephyr will guide you to the win - that's all Sam Johnston needs to know when riding this one. Zephyr is the kind of horse who displays his outward passion for flight in the final stretch. Up to that point, he seems calm as a cucumber. Ask him to go, and suddenly Zephyr will come alive, powering to the victory. What matters most is the timing of the ask - Sam needs to ask at the right moment so Zephyr can throw it all down and go for broke for the victory. Zephyr is the horse that never heads in the stretch and never fails to go when ask. He enjoys the feeling of winning a race and even doesn't seem to mind the noise of the winners' circle, but right after it's back to stoic Zephyr who merely wants his hay and a quiet afternoon to himself.
