INFINITE WARCRY AND AMBER BLACK CANJUN MOON AND HENNA TURATH
INFINI'S WORKOUT FOR THE JANUARY MAIDEN TURF
Can't you keep your mount under control? Amber half-snapped at Henna. Aboard Infinite Warcry, it was like being on smooth water and traveling alongside a whirlpool. Canjun Moon was a blur of energy; he was being especially difficult to control today, too, for no apparent reason. Oh, come on Amber, Canjun's just excited. He likes Infini claimed Henna with a soft smile. Amber only muttered herself, pulling her black colt slightly farther away from the crazy Canjun. She didn't want to have the son of one of her favorite horses ever, Jessie James, getting injured. Never mind that Jessie James had actually injured Henna's favorite mount Dashing In The Firelight a couple years ago, so Henna did owe her an injury or two. That didn't count, not with the quiet calm that was Infini, going for his first race in the January Maiden Turf. No, nothing could stand in her way for this. Her current ambition was to make Infini her next top turfer, and eventual winner of the Turf Triple Crown. And though this was a lofty goal, Amber had her mind set - and Canjun Moon better not ruin it for them.
Henna glanced at Amber, a knowing smile curling her lips. She knew just how concerned Amber was for Infini, and wished that the owner of the illustrious SOPS would just take it easy. Canjun had come fourth in his maiden race against older racehorses, but that didn't mean he lacked talent. It was just impossible to win against such seasoned competition. Nevertheless, Henna knew Amber wanted Infini in the Unicorn Horn Juvenile Turf. This would be a rare opportunity to make it in - only the two year olds who won their initial or second starts made it in to the Unicorn Horn Juvenile races. Others found themselves facing seasoned competition in the Maidens. Henna knew there was a great likelihood she and Canjun would be among the many duking it out for the Maiden title. She just hoped that Amber could avoid that by breaking Infini's maiden on the first try.
So, for the workout today, if you can keep your colt under control, we'll be doing a quick six furlong gallop, side by side, on the turf. No racing. Hopefully your Canjun knows when to not push it Amber coolly stated. Henna did not reply to Amber's words with a retort; instead, she flashed a cool smile and said Ready when you are, then. They had been cantering off and on for a little bit, bickering every furlong or so, for a couple minutes now. Infini was looking smooth and loose; he was a tall two year old, but appeared to have control of his physical functions. Canjun, on the other hand, looked like he was full of energy. If anything, he needed to cool down and lose some of that energy!
At Amber's signal, both women leaned over their horse's withers and urged them into a gallop. Canjun entered the pace quickly, seeking a position to the inside of and slightly ahead of Infini. He was already showing his gained experience from his first race. Infini was slower to pick up the pace, and Amber prodded him slightly. The black colt lazed slightly behind Canjun, not interested in the pace at the moment. He was a hair-raising closer, one of those types that stayed out of it until the last possible moment before showing extremely impressive acceleration and swooping in for the lead. Amber hadn't liked his style at first, but had grown to accept it. It was too risky for her liking, yet Infini played it well. Not to mention the colt had a closing kick that would have given well known closer Limitless Time a run for his money.
Canjun pulled at the reins during the entire gallop. Infini was content to lay back and wait the whole time. Amber didn't ask him to speed up, and Infini did not. Meanwhile, Henna was asking Canjun to slow down, and the two year old was hardly listening. As they pulled back to a canter after six furlongs, Henna had to really work to get Canjun back down to a reasonable pace, while Infini quietly obeyed Amber's commands. He was hardly panting, and he looked good as he smoothly decelerated. Amber grinned, liking the fluidity of his movements and the energy she could feel rolling off of him. They were ready to go!
