INFINITE WARCRY AND AMBER BLACK SILLENIA AND KRYSTAL YHATE
INFINI'S WORKOUT FOR THE CORONATION CUP
He owned the turf. The big black gentle giant of a thoroughbred had long since declared his supremacy over the surface. He had been the lightly raced two year old who had somehow danced his way to victory over the turf last year. He had never faced the top dirt horses, and now he was getting his chance. Best Two Year Old Colt winner Instant Success was in his next race, and he was a newcomer to the turf. The colt had tried to dominate the dirt, failing in the Juvenile against Forbidden To Fly but still clinching the ultimate award. He had been introduced to the turf this year and had taken to it well, with three wins to his name. He was undefeated so far. But so was Infini. The black colt had won his first two races in style and was coming into this one off of two weeks of rest. The turf had long been his and it would continue to be his. There was no stopping the colt.
The Turf Triple Crown had eluded SOPS. They had come so close but had never captured all the legs of it. Today, Infini was going to be working with a veteran of the Turf Triple Crown, Sillenia. The five year old mare had won the first leg, the Kentucky Open, but had placed third and second in the respective next two legs. She knew what the turf was about, and though she was dual surface her real accomplishments had come on the turf. She would be fantastic competition for Infini today because her running style of a closer would mimic Instant Success's style. The two big colts were both closers. The other entry in the race, Passionate Flyer, was not considered a huge threat. Though blue blooded, his racing achievements did not make him a huge threat to the two. In Amber's mind, the best of the turf was clashing with the best of the dirt in this race and there was no other horse that would get in their way. Flyer was a preceder and would set the pace. Isa and Infini would be in the back, biding their time. Twelve furlongs was a hefty distance to run, but run it they would. Infini had stamina and large lungs which made him an efficient distance runner. He was all about taking his time out there and would try his hardest only in the latter stages of the race to take the win. He would break a bit lazily and take his position at the back. The gap between him and the front runner would widen and widen, but neither him nor his rider would be deterred by the distance. In the final furlongs Amber would urge the colt onwards with sudden ferocity and they would shoot upwards. The ground would mean nothing. They would catch up, pass and take the victory in the first Turf Triple Crown prep race. It would be done. No horse would stand in the path of the dream Amber had hatched out upon breeding the colt. This was their crown to take.
They strode onto the track alongside Sillenia. The bay mare was classy today, and she strode like she meant business. They warmed up side by side before breaking into the gallop meant for their eight furlong prep race. Sillenia took a slight lead, and Infini dropped just a bit behind. Thus the positions remained, and the pace slow, as the furlongs dropped away behind them. Infini remained quiet and stable under Amber's hands, while Sillenia was a bit more eager to go on and pulled slightly away from them. The gap was widening after six furlongs of running. The end of the race was coming and it was then that Amber felt Infini come alive under her hands.
With a surge of godly speed Infini narrowed and then disappeared the gap. It was gone. It had disappeared. It had melted like butter. The black strode on and Amber felt like she was aboard a thunderous machine as they went to take victory in front of the mare two years their senior with twice as many wins. They would be crowned king at the Coronation Cup, appropriately named, and none would stand in their way.
