Basics
Horse Name: Phaedra
YOB: Y15
Height: 15.3hh
Color: Gray
Gender: Female
Sire: Royal Cadenza (Hail To Prince [GS Gallant Prince x Tamaraq] x Bluebell Sonnet [Theatrical x Makybe Diva])
Dam: Sugar Jayde (BHoF Sweet Sugar Cane x BHoF Queen of Hearts)
Phaedra was bred to see how flexible Royal Cadenza could be as a sire, and also for the interesting pedigree combination that would result. Both Royal Cadenza and Sugar Jayde were respected runners, with Sugar Jayde perhaps a bit higher in the class scale. Royal Cadenza, by Hail To Prince (sire of Princetta, Passionist, Flawed Princess) and out of Bluebell Sonnet (Lawliet's Girl, Blue Me Away), inherited a stamina legacy but seemed content to do his best performances at the mile distance. In came Sugar Jayde, by our foundation sprinter Sweet Sugar Cane and out of Akita Rose's foundation blue hen mare Queen of Hearts (Heartless Revenge, A Royal Legacy, Dark Sunrise, Fleet Goddess, Limitless Time) who ended up preferring the turf sprints and won the Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint and the Breeders Cup Filly and Mare Turf Sprint among other accolades during her career. Bred to balance speed and stamina, Phaedra initially seemed to prefer the classic sprinter distances but has grown into being able to get the nine furlong distance with age. She is the inheritor of a rich turf legacy, but unlike our usual lines this legacy is strictly in the sprinting (and perhaps miling) realm!

Born out of a heart-of-gold dam and by an arrogant sire, many bets were taken on exactly what kind of horse Phaedra would prove to be. No bets were wrong, but none of them were completely correct either. Phae was born unafraid. She treats every novel experience with warm curiosity and acceptance. The first time Phae stepped foot in the gate, she proved herself a complete anomaly by simply wandering in to inspect the metal contraption with no fear at all. It is unclear whether Phae is this way simply because she believes herself untouchable or because she is difficult to startle - maybe it is both. Whether it is arrogance or innocence, nothing phases Phae. The filly is built as lightly as her dam and steps even more lightly, but carries herself with the confidence of both of her parents. There is nothing Phae appreciates more than a healthy challenge and appreciation from her humans. She gets easily bored and needs to be constantly entertained. If there are a lot of humans in the area, Phae will demand their attention with increasingly loud whinnying until it is given. The humans are usually only too happy to pet the filly and give her all the attention she wants, however - it's simply too fun to spoil her.
Leg Type: Closer
Phaedra loves attention, and the same is true on the track. She is incredibly flashy in the post parade and in the lead up to the gate, dancing around and essentially putting on a show for the crowd. She loads easily, and when those gates open she is one of the first out...and then drops back immediately, as though something is wrong. Phae is surprisingly dramatic. She likes to hang around in the back of the field, biding her time and running along. The moment the cheers of the crowds get loudest and her rider asks for her to move, Phaedra takes off, closing so aggressively that Christopher Black is left hanging on for dear life. The filly is a ridiculously aggressive closer, as any horse must be in a sprinting race, and nothing stands in the way of her and victory. She could be twenty lengths back, ten, going wide, boxed in - Phaedra does not back down and will invest one hundred percent effort into bringing home the victory. Every horse in the field knows as they turn for home that Phaedra is coming for them and will not back down until she's in front. Phaedra likes to put on a show for the crowd, and the louder that crowd is, the better she does.
