Kaida is a horse that looks as though she should be terrifying both on paper and in person. At seventeen hands high and packed with lean muscle, Kai looks more like a colt than a filly. With a cold, intimidating dam like Battle Wings and the legacy of BHoF sire Shiver Me Timbers, you'd doubly expect a filly up to no good - but Kai defines all of these expectations. She has the muscle mass and the height, but Kaida is honestly a scarily affectionate horse. She likes to push her nose into people's faces and demand treats and attention and absolutely loves receiving hugs, especially because she's so tall and humans struggle to reach all the way around her neck. But as she nice as she is to her humans, well, you'll absolutely see her dam when she's around other horses. Kai has a commanding presence that demands obedience to her assumed leadership. She responds to challenges with pinned ears and an intimidating look that typically makes every horse back off. Those that don't back off have already been separated from her presence, mainly for their safety rather than hers. Kai is a horse that you can only trust around horses that accept her leadership; she leaves these subordinates alone but deals with every upstart appropriately and quickly. Kai can flip the switch so quickly from affectionate to commanding that it can give you whiplash. Despite this, she's actually well loved around the barn for surprising every human who comes into contact with her, as they expect a cold brat but instead get a horse that is more than they bargained for.
Leg Type: Closer
Kai is ice cold on the track, shutting down even her human affection tendencies to focus on the job at hand - racing. At seventeen hands high, she easily intimidates her paddock mates and absolutely cannot be warmed up next to a paddock pony. She gives every onlooker the impression of a horse ready to blow. A consummate professional when left to her own devices, she is a gorgeous picture on the track, able to move her long legs quick to accomplish the sprinting that is her forte. Not the quickest gate breaker, Kai typically finds herself at the back of the field for the initial stages of the race. She settles quickly and paces herself, sitting off the pace but never getting too far behind. This is the kind of horse that closes the way a sprinter closes - as though her tail has been lit on fire. The moment Meredith asks for her to go, Kai goes, unfurling her long legs and sweeping up the track in a devastating burst of speed her competitors may not expect. She can accelerate and close so quickly that she typically takes the entirety of the field by surprise - one moment she's there, the next moment she's gone. Kaida is the kind of horse you can expect some hairy finishes from in the shorter races but lengths of daylight between her and the rest once you hit seven furlongs and the mile distance. Her mountains of inherited speed and stamina serve her well and are on full display each time she races. Kaida loves a challenge and sees the win as the ultimate assertion of her inherent dominance.
