Amaranth is a gorgeous animal with a completely bratty attitude. She's so pretty to look at, having inherited the chestnut coloring of her dam, but beneath the beauty lies a whole lot of fire. Amaranth is taller than most of the males in her crop and her height has her convinced that she's a queen. She looks down her nose at the other horses and treats none as her equal, respecting none but expecting respect in return. She's not a horse you can push around; respect her, and she'll do as you ask. Try to force her to do something, and Amaranth will never respect you and will even openly defy you. Amaranth is an intensely intelligent horse, able to figure out the gate in a matter of minutes and learn the purpose of anything you're teaching her incredibly quickly. Unfortunately, she also knows how to use this intelligence to commit sly acts of defiance as her mood fits it, whether that be puffing out her chest to loosen up the girth when being tacked or casually putting her head up too high for any human to reach when trying to get a bridle or halter on her. The best way to handle this mare, surprisingly, is by joking right back - holding the carrot out of reach, purposely not noticing her nudging your back to ask if you'd get out of the way pretty please, etc. She's a horse that it takes a sense of humor to put up with and even enjoy.
Leg Type: Gradual Closer
Amaranth is the kind of horse that lights up the track with the fiery chestnut color of her coat and her antics. Her beautiful conformation and reputation as the last foal of her famous sire to hit the track already kept eyes on her throughout her life; on the track, Amaranth seeks to keep those eyes fixed straight on her, though she's not going to try to keep the attention of the crowd through ridiculous means like ramming other horses or rearing in the paddock. Amar doesn't care what surface is under her hooves provided she gets to run. She loads easily, breaks quick, and lags behind right from the start. The large mare prefers to have a furlong or so to get her hooves under her before she starts any actual running. Then, she'll gradually work her way up the field, passing a horse every furlong or so, until given the signal to go and take the win. At that point, she's typically stalking the pace in third or fourth, and given the signal she finishes her upward acceleration trajectory and strikes out for the win. Amar loves to finally let her legs unfurl and go for broke in the last quarter of the race. She is swift and determined to get a wreath of flowers draped around her neck, so puts her best effort into every race she runs. No off days with this one!
