Cannonade was bred to be a sprinter tapping lines we know and love - Speed Demon, Sophie Might - along with one new line - Deathflash, through Deathflash's Pride. Fusillade is a newer stud who carried the lines we desired along with Ashanti, a nice broodmare line. Sophie's Pride is an Intrepid-bred who ran up to ten furlongs over both surfaces with ease. Cannonade is her only foal. Cannonade is a unification of these smooth lines into one streamlined sprinter ready to take the tracks by storm over both turf and dirt.

Canna is the type of horse who thrives off a good challenge. She's not pushy, she's not arrogant, but she is a defiant mare with enough power to back up her statements. Cannonade will not push you around or disrespect you unless she feels as though you are challenging her to do something. This was a mare who didn't allow herself to be trained to trailer until we tried to tempt her with an apple, and even then she saw the apple and regally ignored it the minute she got into the trailer, as though insulted by its very offering. Cannonade has a high opinion of herself and acts the princess around the barn, but she isn't arrogant about her own self-worth. Hers is more an attitude of self-adulation in which she doesn't much care if others don't share the same opinion, provided they keep their opinions to themselves. On a regular day, Canna looks the part of an ordinary horse - content to munch on her hay, occasionally play with the jolly ball hanging outside her stall, and so on. Put her in a workout or on the track with another horse, and all of a sudden Canna is the horse that absolutely needs to win and needs to cross that wire first. The best way to train and interest this mare is by challenging her to do something. Prevent her from accomplishing a task, and suddenly Canna morphs into a brooding filly, almost taking no notice of the world until she's had a chance to prove herself. Canna is a friendly type provided she senses no competition, and this is part of the reason why she 100% cannot stand Armina within so much as fifty meters of her. Canna is the kind of filly who thrives when worked out and cared for. She requires a high level of mental stimulation during the day, which is why her stall is often filled with various balls and other things for her to chew happily on.
Leg Type: Mid Pack
Canna is almost uncontrollable on the track. The sight of other horses revs her up so much that by the time she's out of the saddling paddock, this filly already seems warmed up and ready to go. She lathers easily but never seems to boil over, working to this heightened peak of focus and intensity right up until the race begins. An average breaker, Canna thrives in a position of high action - that position often being the middle of the pack, where she has challengers on all sides to keep her revved up and ready to go. Canna may spend the entirety of the race waiting for the cue to explode. The more horses in her field, the happier and more gutsy this filly becomes. Canna thrives off of others throwing down the gauntlet and pushing her ever faster in her quest to win. She has a nose for the wire that is on full display when she finally accelerates to top speed at the end of a race, bounding for the win and competing with heart on full display until she's pulled up at the end. Canna brings her best to every race and hates to lose. Never have we had a horse mope about so much after a close finish just to throw herself into her workouts after! She really does thrive off of competition and is probably slated for world's quickest career as a broodmare after she races before finding the showing arena and the competition that comes with it more to her liking than the quiet life.
