Momento is an extremely keen racer. He'll listen and run his heart out when he's training and racing, wanting to be able to kick butt when he actually gets out there for real. One of the nicest qualities about him is his listening skills, they enable him to run so much better. When he was two he had lots of problems with listening, wanting to do it his way. Since he turned three he grew a good pair of ears, and that's part of the reason why he's been doing so well, winning three big races this year and placing third in the Dubai World Cup. Off the track, though, he's a total nightmare. He hates staying inside, hates having to stand around while you care for him, hating having to be taken care of by someone other than himself really. It's his two year old self again, him trusting his word alone. That's why he's left in one of the larger paddocks all day, with a companion sometimes so he doesn't decide to leap the fence in boredom. Momento absolutely worships the track, and he loves the dirt and his sprints and miles. It's quite fun to ride him and feel nothing except exhilaration as his body curves around the turns and he races to victory. The wonderful thing about Momento is his innate skill; being so tall, you'd expect him to be a closer, but Momento knows how uncoil his legs and leap into a massive stride by the first turn. He likes to sit mid pack, right on the outside and never in the center. When given the signal he will run and win. If not given the signal, he'll run away by the turn for home.
We have decided to retire Momento now that he's five. We would have kept him racing if not the fact we have so many new racers coming in. Momento will be greatly missed on the racetrack. We have decided to not keep him as a breezing partner and instead give off to the life of a stud. After two months have gone by he will be taken out of stud duty and will be conditioned to start a western speed career at six years old. May his foals be blessed!
