This colt is a rarity. He was one of the original horses that Ripley Marsh and Battle Brook Stables trained and raced from the very beginning. He enjoyed success there, and because of that early success we've always kept an eye on him. When Battle Brook went under, we encouraged the owners of Triple Krown Racing to take a chance and buy the colt that we'd seen such talent in - we didn't have the room for him ourselves at the time. Due to financial constraints, though, Triple Krown was forced to sell Merc. Naturally we jumped at the chance to finally steal away this colt. Merc is a rarity among our horses. He has unknown bloodlines and no known relations. This makes him a great horse for somebody to establish in the racing world...that somebody being Valencia Andrews.
Merc is a huge hot head. He is hot blooded and is able to make trouble where there is none. By trouble, we mean turning something fun into something dangerous. He has an unusual ability to do this, and we think it's because of his clever mind. Merc has a lot of hot blooded passion in him for racing. He loves to run for the reason all racehorses love to run. However, few can match the shine of brilliance in him. Merc is by far one of the most brilliant horses we've had the pleasure of owning. He is intelligent enough to work through complex situations, and to manage to do his usual troublesome work. He has lean legs and a deep chest with a huge heart. Despite his large size, he's put together amazingly well and is the picture of good conformation. Merc knows just how to get under your skin. He can be very annoying, and it takes a special type of person to work with him.
Leg Type: Front Runner/Stalker
Naturally, being as hot headed as he is, Merc likes to be right in the front where the action is. He runs like a machine when he's up there, rarely tiring. He knows just how to push the buttons of the horses around him too. He'll taunt them with his speed to go faster, or adopt a preceder position and push them. Unlike many horses, Merc doesn't tolerate being pressured by preceders to go faster. That's his job. So in such a situation where he's leading and another horse is attempting to push him, he'll just ignore them, and that really infuriates the other horse and his or her jockey. When there's three furlongs left in a race Merc steps it up a bit and takes the lead. By the quarter pole he pours it on, taking over the race in a dominating fashion and giving it everything he has. Merc loves to race because of the feelings of victory and smugness he gets from making other horses eat his dust.
