Basics
Horse Name: Sunrise Spell
YOB: Y15
Height: 16.3hh
Color: Bay
Gender: Male
Pedigree: Mercurial Magic x Flash At Dawn [Flash of Lightning x Whispers At Dawn]
Spell is a horse who expresses himself strongly through body language and is never afraid to express himself with a moodily stomped hoof or head toss. Though hot headed at times, he is extremely intelligent and adjusts quickly to new environments and change.
Spell is one of the most bombproof horses on the property. Nothing scares him except the most sudden of surprises, and even then Spell maintains his temper and mind. He is not one to bolt off into the sunset when set upon with a sudden surprise. Spell is not a shy horse; he is quite social with both horses and humans and is well known for the rapid friendship he developed with the barn cats. He can be quite affectionate, coming up to you in the pasture and demanding treats with a look that seems to see more than you think it would. Spell is one of those types who can't be kept for too long in a stall. He needs room to move around, or he will create the room by knocking down walls and throwing his weight around until he's satisfied.
Leg Type: Stalker/Closer
Sunrise Spell maintains his calm facade on the track, but some of his hot Flash At Dawn and Mercurial Magic blood begins to show through. There is an extra spring in his step, a calculating look in his eye as the fiercely intelligent horse evaluates the dirt beneath his hooves and the horses around him. He was a cinch to train and loads into the gates smoothly as can be. He breaks fast, but is never one to lead the field. No - he'll either be up with the pace but behind the leaders, monitoring the action from up close, or he'll stay at the back, never trailing the field but just off the pace. Spell seems to pick his position and pace as it pleases him, though he is amenable to jockey Meredith Mahon's suggestions on the matter. Whether stalking or closing, Spell always finishes his races the same way - with an explosive move that blows the race wide open. One minute he is galloping along, the next he is unleashed and unfurls his long legs to sweep up the track in a move that staggers those around him. It doesn't matter how far back or how close he is - Spell always unleashes his kick about a quarter mile from the finish, and you can bet that that quarter mile will be the fastest he's run for the entire race. Spell has amazing reserves and always seems to find another gear in the stretch. He will keep on reaching, showing heart and grit and a desire to lay it all down on the track in order to claim victory.
