YOB: Y19
Height: 16hh
Color: Bay
Gender: Female
Sire: Mainspring
Dam: Trinity [The Immortal (Seabiscuit x Black Magic) x All Smiles (High Times x Attraction)]
The decision to breed Impulse was stamped "Bring something new!" from the start. Instead of going to the usual, establishes sprinter lines, Amber Black sought out the created sprinter stallion Mainspring from Intrepid. Perhaps it was because Trinity rose from the lines that Intrepid specializes in; perhaps Amber was merely feeling charitable towards Intrepid that year. Whatever the case, the union of the foundationally lined Mainspring with the rich pedigree of Trinity brings together new with the old to produce an indeed unique filly.

Impulse, contrary to her name, is not impulsive. She's stately like a queen, tall and built into her legs like a racecar is built to suit a particular engine. She is perhaps the most athletic and workhorse-like of the Year Nineteen crop, enjoying hard workouts and needing plenty of exercise and stimulation to get her through the day. Few horses are as resilient and versatile as Impulse; few horses compare to her flexibility and focus. Impulse never seemed like a young horse to us; she never seemed to not know what was going on and picked up on things with aplomb, taking to racing over all surfaces like a fish to water. Despite this flexibility, though, Impulse is demanding. She might not mind what you give her and she might be able to live without some things, but she'll damn well demand that she be given something, or there'll be hell to pay. No carrots in the barn? You'd better leave Imp an apple if you want her to look at you fondly in the future. Imp has a hell of a memory, seeming to rarely forget anything. She becomes familiar with a track within one workout, seeming to pick up on just about every detail with a simple canter 'round its entirety. Big crowds and large fields, small crowds with large fields, a sudden influx of rain making the track wet and spongy - none of it seems to bother Imp, who seems to handle anything thrown at her with cool grace.
Leg Type: Closer
Even though Imp is so flexible off the track, she's a stone cold closer on it. She's simply not bothered in the early stages of a race. After an average paddock and warm-up session, she'll break on time and simply choose to settle at the back, as though letting the others blow off steam while she takes her own sweet time getting her legs together. This usually takes a furlong or two, allowing the field to draw off quite a bit, but no gap ever seems to bother the bay filly. Give her the cue and the final turn, and Imp will come alive, waking up and ricocheting forward as though shot out of a cannon. There's nothing stopping Imp in full throttle; she'll come alive and zip like a racecar for the lead, carving out her own path on the outside in her quest for greatness. Imp is the kind of horse who will sweep under the wire in first and be hard to shut down well past it; once she get going, there is almost no stopping her. She is often one of the last to finally stop racing and slow down, and then only because she's left the field probably well behind her.
