Nicknamed "The Spider" for his absurdly long legs, Alacrity is a striking animal to say the least, but not necessarily in a good way. The bay colt is rangy, narrow like a fish at the withers and shoulders and ribby despite all of the groceries the team pummels into him. He is a good natured sort of horse, always looking for a mint or ten, and has a soft eye to draw you in. He takes very much after his sire in this area, which is only ironic because visitors will always tend toward the volatile Royal Flush over him simply because he's a gray and Alacrity is... well not. Despite the unfairness of his not-so-good looks, Alacrity is an otherwise durable creature. He never misses a meal, never is sore after a gallop or workout and just trucks along like the world's happiest camper. A proverbial thinker, The Spider loves to mull everything over before he freaks out, which boded well for his time at the track where wide open spaces, hundreds of horses and people galore can intimidate even the strongest of horses.
Leg Type: Gradual Closer
Alacrity is a throwback to the golden days and he sure looks like it. Rumor has it the original successful horses weren't pretty, fat show ponies like you see in the auction rings these days. They were lean, mean, covered the ground like greyhounds and could carry more weight than a modern horse ever dared. When Alacrity rolls down the lane, he looks just like that horse. However, he is not that horse right from the start. He breaks a step slow, needing to orient his lanky legs beneath him before finding that ground-eating stride of his. At this point, The Spider will find himself five lengths off of the last horse in the field. Luckily for his jock, the bay colt is not someone who needs to be scrubbed to get moving. His long legs carry him into the game down the backstretch and by the time he reaches the halfway point, he'll be running with the midpack horses. Gamey in spite of himself, the bay colt relishes a good traffic weaving and seems to find competitive fuel in the herky-jerky movement. At the far turn, his rider will set him loose where he'll often go wide on the turn before turning on his blistering late kick. With great gobbling strides, the bay horse will inhale his remaining opponents mercilessly on his way to a not-so-photogenic winner's circle appearance. But The Spider certainly doesn't care if he sees the photo at the end of the day; he just wants the win.
